Multiple times a week I check this site for new posts and game developments. Unfortunately, most of the time - I find nothing. This worries me. No buzz about the game, no suggestions for improvement, no new insights into future product updates or expansions.
With nothing to hold me over, I purchased the complete collection of the original. Played it once and haven't touched it since. I can't play the original after seeing how visually stunning the second one looks. However, ZT2 tossed aside many of the gameplay things that made the first Zoo Tycoon so good. As fans of the series, I'd like to see those of us that frequent this site engage in more discussion - perhaps suggest ways to improve the sequel and improve our overall gaming experience.
If I'm a developer or marketer of this game and I look at these sites and see an inherent lack of interest, I have no motivation to continue developing this product.
Some ideas of seen around the site: An extinct animals expansion (The Dodo bird was mentioned, as well as the Wooly Mammoth) Make the game less kiddy like. Instead of having an animal attack simply batting a paw at another animal or person have it a little more realistic. Add a way to speed up the clock. Make animals life spans occur in real time not game time.

You're right about the whole marketer perspective. If they don't see positive outlooks on the ZT games or any outlooks at all... I have no complaints about ZT2, although like you and most others I'd like to see more animals. I'm sure with time, they will come...asuming people keep up the demand. I have noticed that there isn't much happening here on this site. The homepage hasn't had an update since March. There's not much interaction happening. I tried to get things going. I give my input when I can. I think that all of the Zoo Tycoon products are great. I do find it hard to go back to ZT1 now that I've been playing ZT2. But I still miss ZT1. I used to have The Complete Collection on my laptop, along with all of my progress. Somewhere along the lines my laptop died. The repair people couldn't retrieve any of my info from it, plus I never picked up my copy of ZT from them...and now they don't have it. I think it shipped with the parts from my laptop I've been kind of discouraged to go back to ZT1 because it's hard to cope with the idea of starting all over again. Well, that's all for now...hope to see some more posts. ;D

I have the complete collection of Zoo Tycoon, I just picked it up last week. It's much tougher than the sequel, but by tougher, I mean annoying. The annoyance factor of trying to put multiple animals in the same exhibit and having them all become unhappy because a happy median is unattainable. The addition of biomes to the sequel is a huge upgrade for that aspect of the game. Additionally, I'm a fan of the better zoo keeper recommendations in ZT2 as well.
I would like to see more animals and similiar expansion packs. However, I don't think shows should just be limited to marine animals.

I don't think the original ZT was really made to be able to make mixed exhibits. For some you can, but it's not "encouraged" the way it is in ZT2.
I enjoy the Biome feature, but I still wish the animals had happy/sad faces when building an exhibit like ZT1 did. I like the layout of the Zoo Keeper Recs in ZT2 also.
I would love to see expansion packs. You have a good idea about not limiting shows to just marine animals. Although, I don't have a real interest in having non-marine animal shows. Lets work on just getting the marine animals in the game first...LOL.

Well we all know that the Gemsbok is such a great show animal... I'd hate to see that opportunity passed up.

I think you need more interesting animals, I think the fossa would be a wonderful animal to put in it. Most people havent even heard of the fossa, I think it would attract more people to have animals they have never heard of, like the fossa, it only lives on Madagascar, and there are only 51 in captivity in the world.
