I started out just doing the 'free form' game. I did not realize that by playing the challenge games that you could unlock other objects that are not in the free form game.
In the challenge game, wait to research some of the store items. If you can unlock a new theme, it might have the same store with a different theme. And those you don't have to research.

Craven, do you really mean the Challenge games, no the Campaign games? I saw that we could unlock a few things by playing the campaign games, but I didn't know this would apply to Challenge games too!
What kind of things did you unlock in Challenge games so far? Just different themed shops?

I just unlocked the safari theme with the challenge games. I haven't tried the campaign ones yet. I'm waiting for a new computer before getting too far into it.
I had one challenge to take a photo of an animal sleeping in the shade. Never managed to get it to recognize that it was.
I like creating a hill with a cliff around it. I put that in the middle of an exhibit with a ramp for guests to go up and look around. That works well.
I have tried putting a moat around my animals. But the zoo keepers keep getting stuck in the moat.

Tired of zookeepers not cleaning up poo or not feeding the animals reguarly?
Just create an exhibit without a gate, and leave a zookeeper inside. They are forced to micro-manage the exhibit without their habitual rests periods.

i found out that gazals are one of the most hardest animals to look after.they are always giving birth and wanting more space give them a fairly big pen it always wors best give them lots of food and water like lots of straw and at least 2 metal water bowls and lots of shade and youve got some very happy animals

If you're tired of your animals giving birth, simply remove any male animals from the exhibt. Easy as pie

Now if only we could do that with people, just think how many problems would be solved ;D

Personally, I think people should go throw a screening process before being allowed to continue the species.

Some game things that I've experimented with.
I generally try to limit the # of animals per species to 8, 4 male, 4 female. I use this for every animal except flamingoes who I always purchase when I have money.
I usually have problems with gemsboks as well, but if I keep an eye on them I can usually maintain the species after buying a male and a female.
I've tried different things with the number of zookeepers. I feel one zookeeper per species does very well (I tried 1.5 per species and it was putting too much of a drain on my budget). Even at one zookeeper per species though it's hard to maintain positive cashflow.
I've also found that with appropriately placed trash cans and recycling bins, you can get away with 3 or 4 maintenance workers.
I've also found that dead end paths (those that meet a wall) do not get traveled down all that often. For that reason, I don't have any paths going down walls. The set up is as follows:
Savannah and Tropical Rainforest against left and right walls extending from the front walls to meet the exhibits against the back wall.
The back wall exhibits are the Tundra and Temperate Forest I have two smaller exhibits against the front wall, usually Alpine and Boreal Forest. In the middle section I have one big Wetlands Area and in the same size space on the other side I have a sunken Scrub exhibit (to keep the Kangaroos from escaping) and a small Desert exhibit with no path in between the two... they share a wall. I'm not sure If i can put images on here, but If i can I'll show a clearer representation.

I've found that when the pregnancy icon turns red and the animal goes to give birth, if you crate the animals, the baby disappears and the mother is childless. Wierd but effective if your gazelles are multiplying too fast.
